Welcome to the official documentation of ISBE, Spain's Blockchain Services Infrastructure (Infraestructura de Servicios Blockchain de España). Here you will find all the information necessary to understand, integrate, and leverage the services, components, and capabilities of the ISBE network.

This documentation describes the ISBE components, how to integrate, and the tools available to deploy use cases securely and in compliance with regulations.

What is ISBE?​

ISBE, SPAIN'S BLOCKCHAIN SERVICES INFRAESTRUCTURE, is a national infrastructure suitable for launching innovative projects and applications, both in the public and private sectors, bringing technology closer to both public administrations and companies.

ISBE is more than a technological infrastructure; it is a set of networks that creates a unique space where administrations and companies collaborate to simplify processes and generate real value for everyone.

We promote Spain's technological sovereignty, transforming blockchain technology into an accessible, secure, and useful tool for administrations and companies, ensuring interoperability with Europe and other networks.

ISBE is part of the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Community of Madrid and Alastria, within the Framework of the Regional Networks for Technological Specialization Program of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union-Next Generation EU.

Key Differentiators​

  • Set of networks: ISBE is conceived as an infrastructure of several blockchain networks. A Bare Network, with a maximum level of compliance with regulatory frameworks, and other Use Case Networks, with greater flexibility for applications. A model that allows adjusting the level of compliance, performance, and cost to each business challenge for public administrations and companies.

  • Regulatory Compliant: ISBE complies with all necessary regulations for Blockchain use cases: it incorporates GDPR and eIDAS2 regulatory compliance by design, both at a technical and governance level, to ensure trust and legal validity. Requirements from other regulations such as MiCA, DORA, Data Act, LMVSI, ENS, and NIS2 have been integrated into ISBE's design, facilitating adaptation to legal and technological evolution.

  • Public-Private Collaboration: Private companies and public administrations are integrated and connected within ISBE in a participatory and transparent governance framework, promoting innovation and the adoption of reliable digital services.

  • Public-Permissioned Infrastructure: ISBE combines the open access of public networks with the permissioning of private networks for transaction validation and authorization. Blockchain nodes are clearly identified, helping to maintain system integrity. This approach results in an infrastructure that is transparent for queries and secure in its operation.

  • Decentralization: The governance model ensures that the operation of the Network is shared among several entities, both public and private. This decentralization prevents a single entity from having control over the networks, ensuring trust, integrity, and continuity.

  • Carbon-neutral: Aligned with the European Green Deal, it achieves carbon neutrality through a three-step strategy: low energy consumption design thanks to its efficient consensus mechanism, an audited calculation of its environmental impact, and reduction of the carbon footprint as a shared infrastructure.

  • No technical complexity: Ready-to-use tools and services with available Smart Contracts, APIs, and other resources that facilitate the development and deployment of applications, accelerating "time-to-market", reducing costs for participants, and minimizing technical complexity.

  • Sovereignty: ISBE is a strategic project that reinforces European technological sovereignty by offering a state-wide blockchain infrastructure, interoperable with European initiatives and aligned with Spain's and Europe's digitization goals.

  • Reliability: Secure and efficient architecture, with multi-cloud nodes, monitoring, continuous testing, and cybersecurity by design. All of this ensures robustness and protection against incidents.

  • Open Source: Nodes, APIs, and Smart Contracts created by ISBE are published under open source. This means anyone can access the code, audit it, and collaborate for its improvement, contributing to the ecosystem.
